Thanks
be to God. Today, September 14, the Feast of the Exhaltation of the
Holy Cross, the community of Holy Cross Chapel in San Diego offered thanks
to Almighty God and to the Vicar of His Son, Benedict XVI, for the blessings
to be found in the Apostolic Letter Summorum Pontificum. It
was in San Diego on Sunday, February 24, 1985, that the immemorial Traditional
Latin Mass was restored to the liturgy of the Church, the first diocese
to do so in the United States. Today we give thanks to our late Holy
Father of blessed memory, John Paul II, to the late Bishop Leo T. Maher,
to our bishop, the Most Reverend Robert H. Brom, to our Chaplain
Emeritus, the Right Reverend Monsignor Tullio Andreatta, K.C.H.S. and to
the priests who have cared for us during the past 22 years.
Today
marks the inauguration of the Daily Mass in the Extraordinary Form in San
Diego. To honor Christ, a High Mass was offered by the Reverend Reginald
De Four, C.S.Sp., as pictured below. Henceforward, the Lord willing,
the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be offered
daily, Monday thorouh Friday, at St. John
the Evangelist Church in central San Diego; and, as in the past, on
Sundays at Holy Cross Chapel.
